My Top 5 Favorite Immune Boosters

There are A LOT of immune supporting supplements out there, and I am going to share my top 5 favorite with you.

The overal balance of our immune system is crucial to the overall inner workings of our bodies. When out of balance our immune system can go haywire, and become over active, which can result in an autoimmune disease where the body begins to attack itself. The opposite of that would be when the immune system is weak, and therefore can result in sickness after sickness, and/or an overall system that is run down. The immune system is responsible for killing unwanted cells, bacteria, viruses, etc. If we don't want a chronic disease then we need an immune system that is in balance.

The most important thing to remember is that we need to get sick every once in awhile, especially if our bodies are able to produce a fever. I am not talking about fevers that are dangerous, and above 105 degrees F, but a good strong fever once or twice a year is a really good indication that your immune system is working, and working well. Did you know that the older that we get the less likely we are to develope a fever? Guess what becomes weaker as we age? Our immune systems. See the correlation there? So getting sick once or twice a year is totally normal, and actually a good indicator of health, however continual illnesses definitely means that the overall system is not working as it should. So here are my top 5 favorite immune boosters that I use when we are sick, recovering from illness, or if there is illness going around in our house and I am already run down from being a caretaker. Going into an illness already run down often will pack a harder punch, so I try to boost my husband and I before the illness hits.

So here they are...

  • Astragalus Root-in Traditional Chinese Medicine, astragalus is considered foundational for supporting the healthy flow of “Qi,” or energy, throughout the body, boosting immunity, nourishing the kidneys, improving heart health and circulation, and much more.

  • Homeopathic Cell Salts-Satisfy mineral imbalances in the body, stimulating the body's natural healing process.

  • Vitamin D-studies have indicated that vitamin D supplements can enhance immune response and protect against respiratory infections overall- 1,000iu for kids, 5,000iu for adults in the northern hemisphere.

  • Glutathione-is essential for the immune system's proper functioning and is vital in building and repairing tissue. It acts as an important antioxidant, which helps protect your body from damage to cells caused by free radicals.

  • Bone Broth-is rich in amino acids, which the immune system is dependent on to function properly. Amino acids regulate the immune system and are needed to produce antibodies that fight infection.

You might notice that I do not have elderberry listed here. It is no offense to elderberry. It is a beautiful plant that grows in our very own yard. I even dry the berries and keep on hand, but I don't have a lot of success with it in treating illness. I know that some do, but it is personally not one of my faves.

I don't ever attempt to go through back-to-school, and/or the winter months without the items listed above. As a matter of fact, I have them on hand all year round.

I do hope that you have your home apothecary ready to go, and if you need any assistance please consider becoming a client at the Crescent Center. We will help you navigate the cold and flu seasons ahead!

Stay well!
