Acute Homeopathy~ A Viral Case

A look at how homeopathy works in a real acute viral case....

Liam, our oldest at 19, had several days of post nasal drip that was also accompanied by dry nasal cavities and light fatigue. In pure teenage fashion he powered through, stayed up late, and generally just ignored it. Fast forward several days later when he woke me up at 3am with an excruciatingly painful sore throat. His sore throat was one sided, no swelling or redness of the tonsils (I looked), but swollen lymph nodes that were very painful. His sore throat was described as the muscles in his neck were painful and sore when he swallowed. He could barely talk as his tongue even felt swollen underneath. I immediately gave him Belladonna 200c. He had a tremendous amount of saliva, which led me towards other remedies, but the pain in the muscles of the neck made me stick with Bell 200c. The mucus that he was spitting was light green. He had no fever, which I was really hoping that he would develop, and the reason for that is for an another post at another time.

We also did a warm salt water gargle, and put some ear oil in his ears as they too were starting to hurt. This regimen allowed him to sleep, but it was not restful sleep.

He woke in the morning with a slight improvement of the throat but it was still very painful. I fed him some lunch of homemade chicken noodle soup and I pushed the liquids, and of course herbs. I decided to keep him on Belladonna 200c but felt he needed another dose. After lunch I decided to give him an Ibuprofen because I knew that he really needed rest. Within 30 minutes of the Ibuprofen and the Belladonna he was fast asleep and he slept all afternoon. When he woke he was 90% improved.

So you might think that it was the Ibuprofen that did it, and yes, sometimes we simply need meds to helps us mitigate pain ESPECIALLY when we need rest. Our body KNOWS how to heal, and it does 98% of its healing while sleeping. So good rest is essential and sometimes pain keeps us from that, and homeopathy doesn't quite act fast enough. However, I know that Belladonna aided in his healing because prior to the second dose all of his mucus was green in color, and after the second dose it was clear. Ibuprofen would not make that kind of change.

In homeopathy we view all allopathic meds as suppressive, which means they suppresss the symptoms that the body is trying to express. So when we are in a situation where we are dealing with pain, and we feel the call to use allopathic meds we want to use the least suppressive measures. In this situation we chose Ibuprofen over going to the doctor where he undoubtedly would have been given antibiotics, which are very suppressive. We continued the homeopathy along side of the Ibuprofen, which in the end, was the perfect combo.
